When you meet someone for the first time it’s almost certain that one of the first questions that comes up will be “what do you do?”
Most people fail to answer it. Instead they give a job title or description. “I’m an engineer, I’m an accountant, I work in retail, I’m a policeman etc, etc.” The follow up question should beĀ “yes, but what do you actually do? The reality is most people answer the question “what do you do?” by telling what they are, not what they do.
Next time you have five minutes, sit down and ask yourself “what do I do?” it’s not so easy. If you can answer the question in a couple of sentences then you have a good grasp of what you really do and you can communicate it to others. Try it, it’s not so easy.
